My FIRST competitive wrestling match after ACL reconstruction... so naturally, I picked Isa Fight. ?

And yes, I made sure to take her c*mpletely fresh as my first opponent of the day. Because apparently choosing an easy, gentle return to competitive wrestling was never going to happen with me. ;-)

I was around 7 months after my ACL reconstruction, and I knew exactly what kind of opponent Isa was.

She has a very physical, aggressive style, she’s heavier than me, incredibly strong, and she certainly isn’t the kind of woman who is going to make a comeback match easy for her opponent.

But I couldn’t resist.

And neither could my ego.

One of the things I really like about wrestling Isa is how ALIVE she is on the mats. She’s constantly moving, constantly working and constantly looking for another opportunity. She doesn’t want to make anything even slightly easier for her opponent. If something doesn’t work, she keeps going, changes direction and tries something else.

She simply doesn’t give up.

At 77 kg against my roughly 71 kg, Isa also has a noticeable weight advantage, and combined with her strength and physical style, that makes her a pretty interesting choice for my first competitive test after knee surgery.

Probably not the easiest choice.

But absolutely the kind of challenge I had been missing.

This is real competitive wrestling. We both want to score, neither of us wants to give anything away.

For me, though, this match meant something extra. After seven months of recovery, rehabilitation and gradually getting back onto the mats, this was finally the moment to stop wondering how I would feel in a real fight and actually find out.

And punishment round for the looser agreed :-p
