It’s the end of the working day. Jane walks back through the office car park wrapped up in a heavy coat, ready to head home. She gets into her car, settles herself, pulls the ch*ke out and tries to start it properly — the way she always does.

The engine cranks strongly... but doesn’t start.

She tries again. And again. A handful of solid, committed attempts, each one sounding healthy, each one giving her nothing back. No hint of life. No encouragement at all.

That’s when it sinks in.

Realising she’s likely in for a battle, Jane pauses and removes her coat inside the car, revealing a crisp white shirt and fitted office outfit beneath. Her hair is pulled back neatly, her patent high-heel shoes still on as she braces herself and goes again.

There is no dialogue in this clip — only concentration.

As she works, her face tells the story. Small, instinctive movements: a tightening of the jaw, a slow breath held and released, the faint bite of her lip as she weighs each decision. Her eyes stay fixed, listening closely to every response the engine gives her — and every promise it breaks.

After several attempts, she stops.

Not dramatically. Just a short, thoughtful pause. She sits there in silence, hands resting, eyes forward, clearly weighing up the situation — mindful of flooding the engine, mindful of the battery. It’s a moment of stillness before she commits again.

When she does, the engine turns over just as strongly, but now she’s struggling to coax anything meaningful from it. She works the ch*ke subtly, carefully, trying to find that elusive balance. The engine splutters and teases, hinting that it might start — but never quite does. Each attempt gives her less back than the last.

Frustration finally creeps in.

The careful adjustments give way to instinct. She pulls the ch*ke fully out, commits, floors the pedal, and tries one last time.

Nothing.

The engine drops back into a dry crank... and shortly after, even that disappears. The starter gives up c*mpletely. Jane turns the key again, then realises it’s over.

She sits there, still.

No words.

No gestures.

Just a woman, still dressed for work, hair neat, white shirt slightly creased now, patent heels planted uselessly — stuck in silence as the reality of being stranded settles in.

A classic, unscripted no-start-after-work scenario. Restrained, realistic, and quietly compelling.
