Stepmom is already out the door. She told the sitter to head upstairs — her stepson just woke up from a nap, and tonight’s the sitter’s shift.

The sitter walks in expecting a simple bedtime routine. What she gets is... a lot older than she pictured. She laughs it off. Stepmom’s gone for the night. Bedtime still stands. Bath? Milk? He’s got what he needs. The only thing left on the list is a nappy change.

She checks in first, because he looks frozen. First time anyone besides stepmommy has done this? First time a sitter’s been the one on nappy duty? She keeps it light. No rush. She’ll be gentle.

The old nappy comes off and he goes bright red. She notices. She doesn’t tease him hard for it — she tries to settle him instead. She shows him Hope, then works a slow massage into his legs until his shoulders drop. Middle of the thigh. A l*ttle higher. She asks if that helps. She wants him comfy, not braced for impact.

He squirms anyway. She holds him still, still smiling, still talking him down. It’s okay to like the way it feels. She’s only trying to get him relaxed enough to rest. When he keeps wriggling, she adds a slow up-and-down over his special spot until the fight goes out of him.

Then the nappy work actually starts.

Legs open. She takes a look, amused — his l*ttle p*e-p*e already looks happy to see her. She holds the tip, wipes him down, and cleans underneath. He perks up again. She treats that like good news, not a problem.

Before the fresh nappy goes on for good, she offers the “really relaxed before bed” version: keep the nappy on, hold the tip, and make a messy right there where it’s safe. She counts it down like a game. Three. Two. He squirms and goes red. She starts the count over because he’s close and she knows it. Three. Two. One.

He makes a big messy. She praises him for it — no scolding, no panic, just “good for you, don’t get shy now.” Cleanup, fresh nappy, legs settled, head down.

Lights-out version of the same playful voice: rest well. If another messy is coming, tell her. She’ll check on him in a couple of hours either way.
