Headmaster Mr Barton sat alone in his dimly lit office at Waterhouse Moor, drumming his fingers on the desk. He was already regretting his decision to offer evening classes for adults. The quiet hum of the empty school building only made him feel more irritated.

A soft knock sounded on the door.

“Come in,” he called.
