Here’s what happened with our new MG on its very first day...

I’d taken it out for its initial test drive earlier, brought it home, and then headed out in our regular car to do some shopping. While I was gone, Jane decided to take the MG out for a quick spin on the local rural roads. She only covered a few miles.

What we didn’t catch on camera — and trust me, I’m still gutted about this — is that she pulled over in a lay-by near home, switched the car off, and deliberately flooded it. She pumped the pedal a few times to test it, managed to get it started again, but it was already beginning to misfire. Instead of heading straight home, she tried to run it round the block to clear it out... and that’s when it coughed, spluttered, and dyed almost right on our doorstep.

This is where the footage starts — and where it gets good.

It was a scorching 35 degrees C / 95 degrees F, and Jane’s sat in the driver’s seat in her flat mules, French pedicure toes looking incredible on the pedals. She’s explaining everything to the camera while filming her feet from different angles. You can hear her getting more and more impatient as she tries to bring the car back to life.

She turns the key again and again... pumping that accelerator pedal, sometimes nice and slow, sometimes faster as her frustration builds. The engine cranks over, coughs and splutters, but just won’t catch. She keeps trying, giving it breaks to cool down, then going right back at it — more pedal pumping, more desperate cranking, more gorgeous close-ups of her feet working those pedals.

All of this is real. No restarts between cuts — just genuine attempts over time while she’s stuck there on her own.

Then I finally arrive. You can see the sheepish look on her face as I drive past and take over the filming. After a few more tries from those pretty feet... we finally got the MG started again and she fired up perfectly.
