It Is a beautiful November morning, and after finishing breakfast, Jennifer grabs her backpack, soccer b*ll, and water bottle, then makes her way to the front door of her parents house. At 10 a.m., she has a practice session with her soccer trainer, Mr. Rakehell, and doesn’t want to be late.

He has worked for Ribald University for over and specializes in college soccer teams. Jennifer greets him, and he w*stes no time putting her to work. After warming up with some passing techniques, she shows him her dribbling skills and new head-butt method. They then both post up at a goal and begin practicing scoring strategies. Mr. Rakehell tests her as he mimics a goalie working as hard as he can to block all of her shots. “One more time,” he replies, returning the b*ll to midfield.

She quickly kicks it back over his head and scores her first goal.

“I got it through!” she exclaims happily with a smile.

He grabs it and throws it back to her. “Nice!”
They continue with their practice session,

and Jennifer successfully begins to outmaneuver him, kicking several more goals. Panting and sweating, she feels proud of herself for what she’s accomplished during the day. Especially given how hard Mr. Rakehell is making her try.

Needing a break, she grabs her water bottle from her backpack and sits down on the field to get refreshed.

While Jennifer is resting, Mr. Rakehell takes a moment to text Sarah Slit, the girl he will be training with after lunch. His session with Jennifer has lasted slightly longer than usual, and he wants to let Sarah know he will be late for their practice session. “There’s so much competition. “I’ve worked with Coach Miller for years, so I’ll definitely put in a good word for you, but at the end of the day, I don’t know what will happen.”

She was upset to hear his words but respected that he was being honest with her and not trying to sugarcoat things.

“I mean, if you would, I would really appreciate it.” I’ve wanted to play soccer since high school, and it would be just so awesome if I could make the team. “I’ve been practicing so hard for this.”

“I’ll c*ll him (Coach Miller) when I get home to see if he has any room for you on the player registry, and if he does, that’s a great way for you to position yourself for joining the team.” As he spoke, the strong wind made the branches on the tall trees along the sides of the field sway back and forth.

“Really? Okay thank you, Awesome!” “Honestly, I really appreciate it,” she said. Grinning, she leans over, wrapping her slim arms around his strong shoulders, and hugs him.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, let’s take this one day at a time, Jennifer!” he exclaimed, briefly accepting her hug but gently pushing her back. “Trying out for the team is a lot different than making it,” he said earnestly.

“Yes, I totally understand, sir,” she replied.

“You can thank me when you’re on the field kicking the b*ll with the Varsity girls.” “Okay?” he affirmed.

“Okay,” she said.
“Hey! “Isn’t it exam week?” he asked. “Yeah,” she responded, looking a bit stressed

out.
“If you don’t work tonight, you better make

use of your free time and study for those tests.” “They’re not going to accept any candidates unless they have a B average,” he explained in a solemn voice.

“Okay, I’ll make sure I study tonight.” “I’ll make sure I get all my paperwork done.” After saying this, Jennifer thought hard for a moment, trying to make sure there wasn’t anything else she needed to ask him before she left. “Ummm, well... Just let me know if he says anything. “You know, if you hear anything, just let me know,” she softly.

“I will, Jenny.” “I will,” he echoed.

“Thank you, I appreciate it,” she replied, looking directly into his eyes and giving him a sincere reflection of gratitude.

Mr. Rakehell has been Jennifer’s trainer for the past semester of her enrollment at Northern Ribald University. Firmly believing that his assistance will enable her to achieve the athletic goals that she has set for herself, he’s played a significant role in her development as a competitor. “Bye!” she said, walking from him towards her parents’ house.

And just like that, their time together had ended. Jennifer had made progress, and her dream of being on the girls’ varsity soccer team was closer to becoming a reality.
