Jane crosses the train station car park in the fading afternoon light, heels clicking softly against the tarmac as she heads toward her Ford Fiesta. She’s parked it right at the far end, as always tucked away, out of sight. Experience has taught her that privacy matters when the car decides to misbehave.

The Fiesta has been sitting there all day, left out in the freezing cold since the morning. Jane knows what that can mean. Through the windscreen, her frustration is impossible to miss. She bites her bottom lip, stares ahead, then briefly closes her eyes as the starter turns again. Her breath fogs the glass. From time to time, she murmurs softly to the car, asking it to start, not loudly, not dramatically, just quiet, intimate words meant only for the machine beneath her.

Minutes stretch on. Thirteen. Fourteen. She doesn’t give up easily.

But eventually, even patience has its limits. The engine refuses one final time, and Jane lets the key spring back. She sits there for a moment, composed but defeated, the tension slowly draining away.

With a small exhale, she opens the door, steps back out into the cold, and leaves the Fiesta behind, silent, stubborn as she walks away to seek help elsewhere.
